You also need to adjust the shoulder strap height as the baby grows. The straps should always go into the seat and be level with your baby’s shoulder or slightly below their shoulder.

The straps should never be going above their shoulder and into the seat. There are adjustments to get more room into the harness system to give you more slack. Here, we’ll show you step by step how to make the shoulder straps longer.

Step 1: Loosen the harness and remove the infant insert if you have any.

Step 2: Now, you’ll find three-seat harness inserters. Decide which harness height is perfect for your baby.

Loosening up the harness strap of your Chicco Fit4 4-In-1 Convertible Car Seat is also easy. Just follow the detailed steps below.

Step 1: Press the harness release button located under the fabric on the front of the child restraint.

Step 2: Pull forward on both the harness straps.

Step 3: Now place your baby in the fit4 with their back flat against the back of the seat.

Step 4: Pull the harness straps over their shoulders and around their waist.

Step 5: Adjust the harness strap height position up or down by pulling up on the headrest adjustment tab and repositioning the headrest. Ensure the headrest is locked in the place and the harness straps are at or below the child’s shoulders. Also, make sure there are no twists in the harness straps.

Step 6: Insert each buckle tongue into the harness buckle listening for a click. Pull up firmly on both buckle tongues to ensure that they are securely latched.

Step 7: Tighten the seat belt by slowly pulling the harness adjustment strap until the harness rests snugly on the child.

Step 8: Snap both sides of the chest clip together until they click. If you can pinch a fold in the strap at the child’s shoulders, the harness is too loose and should be retightened.

Step 9: Move the shoulder pants into place and slide the chest clip up to the center of their chest level with the child’s armpits.

Step 10: Check that all straps are flat and snug and buckles are properly fastened.
