Why You Need a Tall Back Glider if You’re Tall Parents – Amy Baby Review

Last Updated on May 4, 2023

So, you’re a tall parent? We feel your pain. As my husband is 6’2″ tall and I myself 5’9″, I know just how uncomfortable it is to try and sit in an average nursery glider and have the backrest hit my neck. The good news is that there are many great options for tall parents out there! Read on to find out more about what these options are so you can make an informed decision when choosing the best one for your needs.

Tall nursery gliders:

The first thing to know about tall nursery gliders is that they’re not all the same. You can get a basic, traditional-style rocking chair with an adjustable backrest and armrests, or you could go for something more modern – like a sleek metal frame design. Let your own personal style guide you in making the right choice!

There are also many different materials available on taller models of nursery rockers, including wood, steel, and fabric upholstery. If nothing else, it will make choosing easier when shopping around at furniture stores because there won’t be as much to choose from if everything’s made out of hardwood.

Fabric will be more comfortable, but it can be hard to find a nice-looking material that’s easy on the eyes. You might want to check out this blog post for some good ideas in picking a stylish nursery glider for tall parents!

Why you need a tall back glider for a tall mommy or daddy?

When it comes to finding a glider for your nursery, you should consider many things. Besides the chair’s budget and design, some features make this furniture piece more comfortable and ergonomic than others.

A tall back glider is one of these items which parents need if they have unusually high or long height because most chairs only come with standard size backs (about 26 inches). This can cause discomfort when leaning back to rest their head against the support. The tallest people might not be able to relax comfortably on them at all due to no room left behind their necks.

I have also linked my most recommended glider for tall parents below so you can explore it if you’re interested too 🙂

Pictured above, the Dutailier Adele 0337 Glider Chair and Ottoman is a great option because it comes with 29.5 inches high backrest. This means any parent, no matter how tall or short they are, will be able to find relief when sitting on it. Plus, its easy assembly makes it perfect for someone who doesn’t want much hassle when putting together furniture pieces like this. On top of this, it comes with an included ottoman, so you can stretch your legs when soothing or feeding the baby. It’s available in four colors: light grey, dark grey, velvet chocolate, and beige.

What if the dad is 6.4” tall and the mommy is 5.9”?

When mom is 5.9” and dad is 6.4”, it gets even more challenging to find a nursery glider that suits their height. The wife is not able to lean back in her favorite glider, and the husband can’t make it on his either. Basically, they both need a tall back glider, or their nursery seating starts being uncomfortable for them.

One of the best solutions here would be to look for a taller-back style with wider seat depth – this way, you will have more space when leaning backward, even if your spouse’s legs are so long they touch the floor.

A wide seat also allows you to relax together so you can feel warm and secure. It also helps the baby to sleep better.

After that, I recommend you to look for a recliner with a tall back so your spouse can lean back and relax as well! Thicker padding also should be considered because it will make the chair much more comfortable for parents.

You can read bedtime stories, sing nursery rhymes or just talk to your little one while sitting in the glider with them. After some time of sitting and talking, you might want to take a nap, too – so make sure the chair won’t slide on any surface when reclining!

If all these are met, then congratulations, you’ve found the perfect tall back glider for yourself (and maybe even your spouse). This is something that will last for years if taken care of properly.
